Help is just a button away with Namola
Technology and Science January 19, 2018
Hello. As a proudly South African brand, we at Dialdirect understand how important safety is to everyone; that’s why we’ve partnered with Namola to make South Africa’s fastest growing safety app available nationally.
In this month’s blog, we brush up your knowledge on what the Namola app does, how it can save your life and make our country a better place for all. Read on to find out how to #MakeSASafe with Namola:
What is Namola?
Namola is a freely available crime response app that empowers you to keep yourself and your loved ones safe, no matter where you are or what time it is. It improves emergency service dispatch times and the communication between officers, the control room and citizens. However, it does not replace 10111; it is there to complement the emergency services sector.
How does the Namola app work?
When you request assistance through the Namola app using the panic button, the Namola team immediately sends your request to local law enforcement and participating safety initiatives in your community so they can come to your aid as quickly as possible.
“Namola was initially launched as an ‘Uber for police’ in the City of Tshwane and later, Gauteng. It was introduced to give victims of crime access to a new innovative way of contacting the police and now has over 120 000 registered users”, says crime activist and Namola chief ambassador, Yusuf Abramjee.
How will Namola make your life safer?
1. Faster response times: When you request help using Namola, call response time is within minutes. All it takes is for you to open the app, click the alert button and an officer to accept. This saves them time and prevents them from getting lost.
2. Improved communication: Operators are able to send images and messages, like a photo and description of a stolen vehicle or missing child, to the officers on the ground. When a citizen sends an alert and an officer accepts, the user is able to send messages directly to the officer and the control room. If necessary and when it is safe to do so, the officer is able to phone the user directly.
At Dialdirect, we believe in making life simpler and safer for everyone, that is why we are honoured to be a part of this incredible initiative. According to Warwick Scott-Rodger, Executive Head of Dialdirect Insurance: “Namola is a smart complement to 10111. Your call will always be answered and the information will be passed on to the nearest police station. Namola doesn't guarantee that the police will be on time, but it improves your chances to get help greatly.”
