What is BetterCar Value?
If your vehicle is written off due to an accident, BetterCar will pay you out or replace it with an equivalent model that is one year newer.
If your car is eight years old or younger, you can add BetterCar to your comprehensive Dialdirect insurance policy. And if your car does not have a newer model, we will pay out 15% more than the retail value of the car.
If a policyholder's vehicle is written off in an accident, they may receive the market value or trade value from their vehicle insurance. BetterCar, however, pays out an amount in excess of the retail value (the highest value you can insure your vehicle for). If you need to replace your car after it's written off in an accident, you can get an equivalent one-year newer model.
It's beneficial for financed vehicles, because if a driver files a write-off claim after an accident, the car insurance payout may not cover the total amount owed on the vehicle. This typically results in a shortfall for the owner. However, depending on the circumstances of your claim, BetterCar will pay you more than the retail value of your vehicle or provide you with a replacement.

How do insurance companies determine the value of a car?
Insurance companies calculate your car's value by taking several factors into account, including the make and model, wear and tear, previous accidents, mileage, and market value.
How much will I get if my car is written off?
If your vehicle is beyond repair, meaning it has too much damage or would be too expensive to repair, given the extent of the damage, your insurer may choose to write it off. In this case, the policyholder may receive a replacement vehicle of a similar make and model or a cash payout equal to the car's trade or market value.
Market value is less than the retail value. If you sell your car on the private market, you’ll get an amount close to its market value.
Trade value is the lowest amount you can insure your vehicle for. If you traded it in for another car at a dealership, this is roughly the amount you’d receive for it.
What happens if my car is written off and it is financed?
Anyone who owns a car that is eight years old or newer is eligible for BetterCar Insurance. It's ideal for financed vehicles that haven't yet been paid off.
When drivers have to replace their cars, there's a good chance their payout won't cover the amount they still owe on the vehicle, leaving them with a shortfall. With BetterCar Insurance, that’s unlikely to happen because we’ll pay you out over and above the retail value or replace the car for you – depending on the circumstances of your claim.
